The horn is everything Super Dynaction in its build, weight and design. With the exception of the offset low-C# key-work, which is identical to the Dynaction model. There is a lot of mystique around the "Master Model" saxophones. The most plausible is that when Buffet changed models to the Super Dynaction, they had bodies left from the Dynaction runs that they updated the key-work to the Super Dynaction. In any case, this is an extraordinary and very rare horn. The serial number is in the 4 digit range of the early Super Dynaction horns, whereas the Evette serial numbers from this era were way into 6-digit numbers. The horn has a recent overhaul with new pads (w/ flat metal resonators), corks, felts and blue-steel springs.
She's regulated for professional playing and absolutely sings. The original case is in mint condition. The classic dark, full and rich tone that Buffet's Super Dynaction horns are known for, is comparable to the Selmer Mark VI and acknowledged throughout the industry during the era as the equivalent competitor with the Mark VI. The horns blows freely across the entire range of the horn, from low-Bb way into the altissimo registers. The intonation is even and consistent throughout the horn.
Originally designed with the intent for more classical playing, the Super Dynaction and S1 horns from Buffet were/are widely played by jazz players as well.
