White King Alto Saxophone #86510. Late'20's Gold Plated Beauty, Fully Restored!
Here is one of the most beautiful saxophones I have ever seen. Satin gold finish on the neck and body tube; burnished gold keys, inner bell, and bell engraving area.
It dates from the late 20's. Serial number data is a bit scarce from this era, but it appears to be just before the Voll-True era of the 30's. It has been completely restored in our shop. The horn was completely dis-assembled; all rods and screws cleaned and polished; old pads, corks and felts removed; body tube and neck scratch-brushed to clean the satin finish; keys, inner bell and engraved area gently buffed to a shine; new corks, pads and felts installed; all pads seated and keys regulated. There are a few minor scuffs, scratches and tiny dings (which we try to show in the photos) but overall I would say that the original plating is about 95% intact.
Big, fat warm sound and very good pitch. Or you could just hang it on the wall and look at it.
It comes in its original King case, with the "King" nameplate on one side and a very age-worn Yale University decal on the other Go Bulldogs, Boola Boola! Also included is a period style large chamber hard rubber mouthpiece marked "France" and "M"; what I believe is the original gold plated mouthpiece cap; and the original gold plated end plug. All shown in the photos.
