Original Lacquer Buffet Paris Super Dynaction Alto Saxophone - Serial # 13801. This is a very cool vintage Buffet Crampon Paris Super Dynaction series alto sax, serial number 13801. Many consider this model to be worthy competition to that other Selmer Paris company, and it is easy to see why. They are built well and play wonderfully. This alto has been well cared for over its life and is in great shape.

There are no signs of serious past damage and no resolders. The only real repair I see is the bell flare has been bent some time ago, but it was professionally corrected. The original lacquer on this particular model often shows crazing and flakes off in spots, and this horn does have that going on as seen in the photos, but that is purely cosmetic, and the sax still has a lot of original lacquer coverage intact. The horn does come with its original neck, which is also in great shape.

This alto is currently padded with metal, slightly domed resonators, similar to what is in a Selmer Series II. Pads are in great shape and have lots of life in them. It is playing but could use a tune up from your choice local repair tech. This Super Dynaction plays with a definite darker tone quality, with a good focus and warmth. Definitely French sounding, it is a fantastic alternative for the concert band setting for someone wanting that dark, colorful sound at a lower price than a Selmer.
