Original lacquer is around 95%. The only repair is to a keyguard leg. Pads with dome metal resonators are probably original and while they are still in playing conditon, will probably need to be replaced in the near future.

If you don't play it much, the current pads will probably last another decade. If you are going to play a lot, then they will probably last for a year or two. Original case shows wear, but is in usable condition. These are great quality saxophones and among the best values on the vintage market. Further Reading: Ralph Morgan (founder of the Morgan Mouthpiece Company) was the Chief Woodwind Designer at Selmer Elkhart in the late 1970s.

When he got his first look at a Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Saxophone, he didn't like it and felt his team at Selmer Elkhart could make a better saxophone. He designed the AS100 Alto and TS100 Tenor and turned these blue prints in before he retired in 1980. Ralph then started the Morgan Mouthpiece Company to bring back the lost art and science of handcrafted woodwind mouthpieces.

Towards the end of his 35+ years with Selmer, Ralph often complained of the cultural shift away from craftsmanship and quality to profits. A true believer of craftsmanship, he used to claim he left Selmer when "they started making urinals but called them saxophones". He claimed that the production run of the AS100 did not escape the wrath of the "number crunchers". The first few years of production of this model produced quality saxophones true to Ralph's designs.

These saxophones are easily identified as having hand engraving, needle springs, and serial numbers starting with 82, 83, 84. After the first few years of production, corners were cut and quality declined. When the AS100 was introduced, it was a top quality professional saxophone and was priced nearly the same as the Paris-made SA80 models.
