This listing is for a vintage Martin Handcraft alto saxophone. It is a Committee II model, which is also commonly known as a "Lion & Crown" due to the iconic engraving on the bell.
It has matching numbers (133, xxx) on the body and bell, indicating a c. This horn features beautiful full bell length engraving with the aforementioned lion and crown iconography. It has some really cool, and sturdy, key guards. It is one of the first horns to have an adjustable thumb hook, and it also has a unique contoured left hand thumb rest as well.
Another interesting feature is a linkage between the octave key and the upper stack slave pad, which lowers that pad on notes from high C# on up. This brings down the pitch on these normally sharp tones. This horn is in excellent physical condition. The body is perfectly straight, and the neck has never been pulled down or otherwise damaged.
There are a couple of small dings on the bow, but no significant dents, nor any signs of past dent work. The bow guard has not been affected, and retains its perfect curvature. I don't see any re-soldered joints either. The original lacquer is 90+% intact, and has aged to a dark golden hue.
There is light scratching and light spotting wear throughout. See the product in action. This horn is currently in good playing condition on older pads, as you can hear in the demo video linked above. I won't say that it is in perfect adjustment, but it is actually sealing up quite well with minimal finger pressure. That being said, it is overdue for a re-pad.The pads are quite old, and showing their age. This is a fine horn that is definitely deserving of an overhaul, so I would advise going that route sooner rather than later. You will, however, be able to play it straight out of the box, if for no other reason than to get a sense of its potential, and you probably could get another year or two out of the existing pads if you really wanted to. This sax comes in a replacement plastic shell case. The case is in excellent condition.
There is no damage to the outer shell. The interior is clean and odor free. There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included, except for a wand style swab that doubles as an end plug. This was Martin's pro line horn in their heyday, and these are still highly prized today! In fact, many consider the Comm II to be the best horn Martin ever produced. This is a beautiful example, at a great price, so it won't last long! Please feel free to message me with any questions. This is due to lack of available transportation ie. If this potential wait presents a problem for you, please refrain from purchasing at this time.
